Norwex Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls

EEek! I'm SO incredibly excited about the new Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls from Norwex. They come in a set of three, and are AMAZING at reducing drying time, wrinkles, and static - all without chemicals or harmful ingredients! They are made of 100% wool - a sustainable resource and naturally biodegradable - and are hand-spun tightly. They will last up to three years, or 1000 loads, in your dryer.

Norwex Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls
Although they make your clothes feel soft and smell “fresh,” fabric softeners and dryer sheets are some of the most toxic products around. They add toxic chemicals to your laundry and, consequently, your body. Plus, it can take YEARS for a dryer sheet to break down in landfills. According to Scientific American, some of the most harmful ingredients in dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners alike include benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen), among others. Since fabric softeners are designed to stay in your clothes for extended periods of time, such chemicals can seep out gradually and be inhaled or absorbed directly through the skin.
“Greener” Laundry by the Load: Fabric Softener versus Dryer Sheets, Scientific American, December 10, 2008. http://www.scientificamerican.com.

PROBLEM:
Your clothes never seem to dry all the way, creating longer dry times. To make matters worse, they come out of the dryer wrinkled and full of static electricity. And using dryer sheets or fabric softeners isn’t an option because they can cause harm to your dryer, not to mention the environment, with all those chemicals.
SOLUTION:
The Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls reduce dryer time, wrinkles and static by creating space between your clothes as they are tossed gently in the dryer, allowing more air to circulate between and among them. And, what’s even better, they don’t contain chemicals or dryer-harming ingredients like most dryer sheets and fabric softeners.

DESCRIPTION:
Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls are a natural fabric softener you use in your dryer. They bounce around to naturally separate and create space between your laundry, allowing the hot dryer air to circulate better and soften fabrics. Made of 100% wool, they help reduce drying time, static cling and wrinkles, all naturally, without chemicals. Use them instead of fabric softener or dryer sheets and radically reduce chemicals in your home - chemicals that are not only harmful to the environment, but are harmful to people as well.
Norwex Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls

KEY FEATURES:
• Made of 100% New Zealand wool
• Softens naturally
• Reduces drying time by 25%
• Helps eliminate wrinkles
• Helps reduce static
• Guaranteed for 1000 loads
• No chemicals

KEY BENEFITS:
• 100% eco-friendly
• Safe for all clothes
• Saves time, energy and money
• Replaces the need for dryer sheets and fabric softener!
• Can be left in the dryer; they won’t melt.
• Quieter and more natural than plastic dryer balls
• Excellent for use with pure essential oils for scented laundry
• Dryer sheets and softeners have chemicals and waxes that can kill a dryer’s heating element.
• Softeners/dryer sheets cause wax buildup on the lint catcher so hot moisture cannot escape the dryer, which could burn out the heater.

HOW TO USE:
• Simply toss the dryer balls in your dryer and start. No need to remove them from the dryer, just reuse!
• Try them with a drop or two of pure essential oil for heavenly scented laundry. After the laundry is completely dried, take out 2 of the Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls and apply desired amount of pure essential oil to each ball. Toss the 2 back into the dryer with the other one and run on Air Fluff (no heat), so the delicate oil is not damaged, for 10 minutes. Your laundry will smell heavenly, and the scent will linger for several days!

Why NOT to use Dryer Sheets or Fabric Softeners

Although they may make your clothes feel soft and smell fresh, fabric softener and dryer sheets are some of the most toxic products around. There are usually warnings on fabric softener and dryer sheets not to use them on children's sleepwear.

According to this article published on CBS, a small study suggests scented laundry items contain carcinogens that waft through vents, potentially raising cancer risk.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-20097302-10391704.html

PubMed.gov has many peer-reviewed articles based on studies conducted to determine toxicity of fabric softeners, such as this one: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10872633 that found "that some commercial fabric softeners emit mixtures of chemicals that can cause SI (sensory irritation), PI (pulmonary irritation), and reduce midexpiratory airflow velocity in normal mice. The results provide a toxicological basis to explain some of the human complaints of adverse reactions to fabric softener emissions."

Some of the harmful ingredients commonly found in liquid or sheet fabric softeners include:

  • Chloroform: This substance was used as an anesthesia in the 1800s up through the early 1900s when its potential for causing fatal cardiac arrhythmia was discovered. A carcinogenic neurotoxin, it is on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list. Inhaling its vapors may cause loss of consciousness, nausea, headache, vomiting, and/or dizziness, drowsiness. It may aggravate disorders of the heart, kidneys or liver. Its effects worsen when subjected to heat.
  • A-Terpineol: Causes Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders, meaning problems relating to the brain and spine such as Alzheimer's disease, ADD, dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, seizures, strokes, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Early symptoms of CNS problems include aphasia, blurred vision, disorientation, dizziness, headaches, hunger, memory loss, numbness in face, pain in neck and spine. A-Terpineol also irritates the mucous membranes and, if aspirated into the lungs, can cause respiratory depression, pneumonia or fatal edema.
  • Benzyl Alcohol: This upper respiratory tract irritant can cause central nervous system (CNS) disorders, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and dramatic drops in blood pressure.
  • Benzyl Acetate: This substances has been linked to pancreatic cancer. Its vapors can be irritating to eyes and respiratory passages and it can also be absorbed through the skin.
  • Ethanol: Another fabric softener ingredient which is on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list and linked to CNS disorders.
  • Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled.
  • Ethyl Acetate: This substance, which is on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list, can be irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract. It may also cause severe headaches and loss of consciousness, as well as damage to the liver and kidneys.
  • Camphor: Another substance on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list. It is easily absorbed through body tissue, causing irritation of eyes, nose and throat. Camphor can also cause dizziness, confusion, nausea, twitching muscles and convulsions.
  • Linalool: A narcotic known to cause respiratory problems and CNS disorders. In animal testing, exposure to linalool has resulted in death.
  • Phthalates: Used in scented products to help the scent last longer, phthlates have been linked to breast cancer and reproductive system problems.
  • Limonene: This known carcinogen can cause irritation to eyes and skin.
  • Also, if you follow a vegan lifestyle, you should be aware that many fabric softener sheets are made using tallow, a form of animal fat.

Manufacturers are aware that the products contain toxic chemicals. The packaging on many brands include a warning that the product should not be used on children's sleepwear. Since some of the same brands also have large images of children and toys, however, consumers may miss the small print message.

Norwex Dryer Balls

*Also look into the Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls!

Place both Norwex Dryer Balls in your dryer with laundry. The unique design of the Dryer Balls lifts and separates laundry while softening fabrics. This reduces drying time, static cling and wrinkles, naturally, without chemicals. No need to use fabric softener or dryer sheets. When finished drying, remove dryer balls from inside the dryer. Use for any fabrics, including delicates, jeans and towels. If you are having static, you may be drying too long. Reduce the dryer cycle by 10-15 minutes.

How do the Dryer Balls work?
The unique design of the Dryer Balls lifts and separates laundry while softening fabrics. This reduces drying time, static cling and wrinkles, naturally without the use of harmful chemicals.

Why did my Dryer Balls split or crack in the dryer?
Dryer balls may crack as a result of exposure to varied temperatures through the dryer vent. Because of this, we recommend removing them from the dryer between loads. Also, make sure the holes in the Dryer Balls are poked through so air comes out. The Dryer Balls have a one year warranty and can be returned within this period of time.

Why are the nubs on my Dryer Balls black?
This is from the dye in your clothes. This will not affect the ability of your Dryer Balls.

If I have been using dryer sheets, what can I do to eliminate the waxy build-up in my dryer?
We recommend washing the inside of your dryer with an Enviro Cloth to remove any build-up left behind from the fabric softener.

The Baby Body Pack is an amazing set of face/body antibac microfiber cloths that work just like the Body Pack, but is made in a smaller size perfect for your baby. The Baby Body Pack is gentle and soft, which makes it ideal for baby's sensitive skin. Plus, with all the extra baby laundry, the Baby Body Pack cloths can go several days without washing - just rinse and hang to dry after use.

Some suggested uses for the Baby Body Pack include:
  • Cleaning baby's gums

The Baby Hooded Towel Set is an excellent choice for new parents. Most baby towels are thin and not absorbent. The Norwex Baby Hooded Towel set is microfiber and will dry and keep your baby warm at all times! The set includes a hooded towel and face cloth, and can be used for babies and toddlers. The set can be used to clean, dry, and keep baby warm. Use a patting motion rather than a rubbing motion. The towel is soft and fluffy, super absorbent, warm, and comfy. It absorbs water from skin so the baby doesn't get chilled after bath time. New moms LOVE this set!

Don't forget the Laundry Detergent and Dryer Balls for all the baby laundry. The laundry detergent is filler-free and unscented, and will not leave any residue in your clothing. It has superior stain removing properties, whitens whites, brightens colored fabrics, and cuts through grease and dirt leaving clothes soft and fluffy. An added benefit is that most fabrics will not build up static in the dryer as there are no fillers left in the clothing, which eliminates the need for fabric softener and dryer sheets (both are also laden with chemicals!). Use the Norwex Dryer Balls for a softer feel.

The Norwex Dish Mat is great for all those baby bottles, pump parts, and other items that need to be hand washed and dried, or aren't suitable for the dishwasher. Eliminate drenched towels on your counter! The mesh side of the Dish Mat allows air to flow through (always place this side up!), while the microfiber soaks up excess moisture.

Don't forget the Odour Eliminator! These products can be used to combat the stinky side of having a baby at home - dirty diapers! Odour Eliminator's bacterial spores work to eat up the organic matter causing the odor. It can be used anywhere unpleasant odors present a problem, and can also be used with rug shampoo solutions to eliminate carper odors (baby spit up, anyone?).
