Why Drink Water?
• Because your body needs it! Water is beneficial and vital to all life. Sixty percent of your body is water, and water is the second-most important element for it to function properly, aside from oxygen.
• Water helps transport nutrients through the entire body; it also helps regulate body temperature, helps aid in digestion and helps remove toxins and waste.
• Staying hydrated helps keep you mentally alert and feeling energized throughout your day.

Filtering Your Water Helps Reduce:
• Unpleasant odor and taste that can a ect favorite beverages like water, tea and co ee
• Impurities such as chlorine, copper, cadmium, mercury and lead
• Heavy metals that can corrode machines
• Limescale, which can cause a chalky deposit or film on surfaces, including tea and coffee machines

What Does Magnesium Do for the Body?
• It helps the body metabolize carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
• It helps in tissue formation and in the maintenance of proper muscle function.
• It helps in the development and maintenance of strong bones and teeth.

Drinking Water Is Filtered in 4 Stages:
Stage 1: Particle Filtration - Helps ensure clear water that is free of particles.
Stage 2: Ion exchange - The filter contains magnesium-coated resin beads that help reduce limescale, copper, cadmium, lead, mercury and other heavy metals by 95% via an ion exchange process. As water passes through the filter, calcium and other impurities are attracted to the resin beads in the filter and stick to them. Magnesium is then released out into the water.
Stage 3: Activated carbon - In stage 3, water passes through a coconut- based, granular activated carbon, reducing chlorine by up to 90%.
Stage 4: Final Filtration - Water passes through a fine mesh filter, ensuring the best-tasting water for you and your family.

Suggested Use:
• Follow the detailed instructions included with your Norwex Water Filtration System. Replace filters every four weeks or when the digital indicator indicates it’s time (approximately 100 fillings).
• Filters should be kept in the sealed Norwex bag and stored in a cool, dry place until you are ready to use them. The shelf life of an unused, packaged  filter is indefinite.
• Clean the pitcher and funnel of the Norwex Water Filtration System using Norwex Dishwashing Liquid. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents or scrubbing sponges, which may leave scratch marks. The pitcher and funnel are dishwasher- safe. Do not wash the lid in the dishwasher or submerge it in water. To clean the lid, wipe it with a damp EnviroCloth®, keeping the filter indicator dry.
• Water can be stored in the water pitcher for 24 hours. Discarded water can be used to water your plants!

How Do I Prepare and Change the Filter in My Norwex Pitcher?
To achieve the best possible filtration performance, rinse the filter with water for 15 seconds. Submerge it in water and let it soak for 5 to 15 minutes. Discard the water, then insert the new filter cartridge into the funnel by pressing it lightly into place. Fill the pitcher with water. It is not necessary to remove the lid as you manually open and close it by sliding the lever back and pushing it forward. Discard the first filtered water filling and refill the Norwex Pitcher.

How Do I Reset the Digital Indicator on My Norwex Water Filtration System?
After the filter is in place and water is in the pitcher, press the button for five seconds. The indicator automatically adjusts to 100, and the filter is now ready. It will count down from 100 fillings to 0. The counter will change each time you close the opening in the lid. Replace the filter at 0 fillings.

What Makes the Norwex Water Filtration System Better?
Our exclusive magnesium technology:
1) Removes impurities and adds magnesium.
2) Offers a neutral pH vs. an acidic pH, improving the overall taste of water and beverages.

Did You Know?
• If you are cooking with unfiltered tap water, you are susceptible to the same taste issues that you would be from drinking it.

• Roughly 33% of plastic is used once then thrown away.
• Approximately 85% of plastic used is not recycled.
• Plastic negatively impacts more than 700 species of animals and birds.
• More than 60 million plastic bottles a day go to land lls and incinerators. The 2014 total in North America topped 22 billion

10 Household Tips for Cancer Prevention

(Source: http://cdn3.ewg.org/sites/default/files/u381/EWG_CancerPrev_TipSheet.pdf?_ga=1.204356624.125693156.1454683532)

Cancer prevention starts with a healthy lifestyle. That means not smoking or using tobacco products, eating a healthy diet, getting regular physical activity, practicing safe sex and getting appropriate vaccinations.

Don’t forget that your environment also plays an important role. Here are some simple actions you can take in and around your home to help reduce your family’s risk of cancer.

(SEE BELOW FOR MY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW NORWEX CAN HELP!)

1. PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE SUN
Clothing – shirts, hats and pants – and sunscreen can help protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. These precautions are especially important when the sun is high in the sky and most intense. EWG’s sunscreen guide can help you find safe, effective products.

2. KEEP A CLEAN HOME
Dust is a reservoir for many toxic chemicals and can be a source of exposure, particularly for children who spend a lot of time on or close to the floor and often put their hands in their mouths. Regular cleaning with a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner and dusting in a way that removes dust, rather than stirring it up, can reduce indoor exposures. In older buildings, lead paint, asbestos-containing materials (flooring and insulation) and older electrical equipment can pose risks. Lead and asbestos removal should only be done with extreme caution and by a professional.

3. FIND ALTERNATIVES TO PESTICIDES
Pesticides have been linked to a variety of cancers including prostate, leukemia, lymphoma, and childhood cancers. Control insects by not leaving food out and cleaning up crumbs or spills, keeping your home dry (using a dehumidifier if you have a basement) and keeping the foundation clear of dirt, plants and debris. Mulch, landscaping fabrics and homemade solutions of vinegar and/or soap are good ways to suppress weeds without using chemicals.

4. KEEP INDOOR AIR CLEAN
When you tackle a home improvement project, use products made without volatile organic compounds such as low-VOC paints and keep work areas well ventilated. Avoid laminates and other composite wood products that contain formaldehyde. Air pollution from fireplaces and wood-burning stoves can also be a serious issue. Choose clean-burning stoves or inserts and make sure they are properly ventilated, with no leaks in the chimney or exhaust pipes. Finally, you shouldn’t ever smoke, but certainly don’t do it in your home.

5. FILTER DRINKING WATER
Tap water can contain low levels of metals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, nitrates and disinfection by-products (chemicals formed when the chlorine utilities use to treat water reacts with organic material). Simple carbon filters can remove many of these contaminants. If arsenic or nitrates are a major concern, consider more expensive options such as reverse osmosis filters or distillation.

6. LOOK FOR ALTERNATIVES TO HARSH CLEANERS
Solutions of soap or vinegar in water can be simple and effective cleaners. EWG’s cleaners guide can help identify less toxic products on the market.

7. CHECK FOR RADON
Radon, a naturally occurring gas that can seep into your house from the ground, is a known carcinogen. Professional radon testing and commercial kits are readily available.

8. COOK CLEAN
Today’s non-stick cookware is much improved, but it doesn’t last forever. Scratched or worn cookware can release toxic chemicals into your food and air, as can pre-heating non-stick cookware at high temperatures. Don’t heat food or drinks in plastic containers; they can leach chemicals into your food. And be aware that charring meat, especially red meat, can produce cancer-causing chemicals known as heterocyclic amines.

9. CHECK FOR MOLD
Mold is toxic to your health and your home. It can be a sign of excessive moisture. In addition to being a cancer hazard, the toxins produced by mold can cause serious acute and chronic respiratory disease.

10. BE MINDFUL OF PERSONAL - CARE PRODUCTS AND MEDICINES
The ingredients in personal-care products are largely unregulated and can contain known carcinogens such as formaldehyde and endocrine- disrupting chemicals such as phthalates and parabens. EWG’s Skin Deep® can help you find products without these problematic chemicals. Estrogen - promoting medications, including hormone replacement therapy and oral contraceptives, have been linked to small increases in the risk of breast cancer. You should carefully consider the risks and benefits with your doctor.

How can Norwex help?
  • Our microfiber cleaning cloths with BacLock™, like the Norwex EnviroCloth®, work with JUST WATER to remove everything from the surface, and the microsilver embedded in the BacLock™ cloths acts as an antibacterial agent to self-clean the cloth, and inhibit bacterial odor, mold and/or mildew growth within the product.
  • The Norwex Dusting Mitt traps dust instead of spreading it around to resettle on your furniture and household items. It can be used wet or dry and is ideal for quick, chemical-free dusting throughout the house, including blinds, screens and other hard-to-clean areas. With its thick texture; dense, plush fibers and unique mitt design, the Dusting Mitt attracts and holds dust and allergens. When used wet, the BacLock™antibacterial agent in the cloth—microsilver—goes to work to self-purify and inhibit bacterial odors, mold and mildew within the mitt.
  • The Norwex Entry Mat is your first line of defense against the dirt, dust, chemicals and allergens that are carried inside every time someone enters your home. With five rows of super-absorbent Norwex Microfiber and four rows of stiff, polypropylene bristles, the Entry Mat keeps dirt, chemicals, allergens and even water from entering your home by trapping them inside the mat. The soles of your shoes are a major source of transferring chemicals and pesticides into your home. In fact, most of the grime in our homes originates outside, the bulk of it coming in unnoticed on shoes that often don’t appear to be either muddy or dirty.
  • The Norwex Floor Systems - both the Mop Collection and the Double-Sided Mop Collectionquickly clean floors using microfiber Mop Pads and water only. It is perfect for hardwood, ceramic, or linoleum flooring as well as walls and ceilings. The dry mop pads use static electricity to draw and lift even the tiniest particles up into the cloth, and open spaces in the fibers, created by the splitting process, enable the pads to lift away dust and dirt and absorb several times their own weight in water. The wet mop pads contain Norwex's exclusive BacLock™ agent to inhibit bacterial odor, mold, and mildew growth within 24 hours.
  • The Norwex Water Filtration System has a four-stage filtration process that uses exclusive magnesium technology for better-tasting water, and helps maintain mineral balance and neutral pH. The filter helps reduce impurities such as chlorine, copper, cadmium, mercury and lead. One filter cleans an amount equivalent to 300 16-oz. water bottles, so it is not only providing you with tastier water, you're also saving thousands of water bottles from ending up in landfills.
  • The Norwex Body Cloths and Makeup Removal Cloths allow you to wash your face and body with only water! They are perfect for sensitive or mature skin, great for both face and body, cleanse skin gently yet thoroughly, and are made from super-soft Norwex Microfiber containing our exclusive BacLock™ agent, the microsilver agent in the cloth, which goes to work with self-purification properties against the mold, fungi and bacterial odor within 24 hours so that it is ready to use again..  The Body Cloths are perfect for removing excess oils from skin, as well as daily hygiene and skin care. They are great for exfoliation, acne and blackheads, and can be used to gently remove face paint from children’s faces too!

Magnet Ball

Do you have hard water? Do you want to use less dishwasher or laundry detergent? Then the Magnet Ball is for you!

The Magnet Ball prevents calcium and lime build-up in dishwashers and washing machines. It is a magnet covered in hard green santoprene - a rubber-like compound. The strength of the magnet is 210 Gauss.

By placing the magnet ball in the dishwasher, it softens the water and allows you to use half the normal amount of dishwashing detergent. Just place the magnet ball in the bottom tray and use half the amount of dishwasher detergent you'd normally use.

Use in a washing machine reduces laundry detergent required by 50%, depending on initial water hardness. For use in a top-loading washing machine, simply place the magnet ball in with your laundry, and use half the amount of laundry detergent you'd normally use. Using Ultra Power Plus (UPP) laundry detergent, you could be using as little as 1/2 tsp. of detergent for each load. See my post about UPP here: http://www.fastgreenclean.com/2013/04/ultra-power-plus-upp.html
See my other post about Ultra Power Plus, the Norwex laundry detergent, versus other laundry detergents here: http://www.fastgreenclean.com/2013/04/ultra-power-plus-vs-others.html

The Magnet Ball comes with a 5-year warranty and is 5 cm x 5 cm x 6 cm / 2" x 2" x 2.5"

Please note, the Magnet Ball is not recommended for front loading washing machines as not enough water passes through the magnet ball, and given the rapid and vertical spin of these systems, use of the magnet ball in them may result in damage.

Magnet Ball

It is recommended that you clean the ball by running a microfiber cloth through the center every month or so. This helps prevent metal and mineral build-up from re-depositing back onto clothing.

FAQ
Why do you use less detergent when using the Magnet Ball?
The Magnet Ball prevents calcium molecules from building up in the dishwasher and washing machines, resulting in softer water. When using the Magnet Ball you should use 50-70% less soap. Do not use in front-loading washing machines.

How do you clean the center of the Magnet Ball?
Pull a cloth through the center of the Magnet Ball to clean the inside and run it under the tap until the water runs clear. This should be done on a regular basis.

Can you use the Magnet Ball in the back of your toilet tank?
Norwex does not endorse placing the Magnet Ball in the tank. Water needs to flow through the magnet ball in order for it to be effective.

Problem
Hard-water spots on your crystal and dishes making you nuts? Are you using more detergent, thinking that will get them clean? If you’re using more dish detergent, then hard water also may be causing you to use more laundry detergent than necessary, too.

Solution
Use a Magnet Ball in your dishwasher and washing machine. It softens water and prevents calcium and lime buildup. Plus, using the Magnet Ball allows you to use less detergent!

How to Use
For use in dishwashers:
Place in bottom tray and use half the detergent you normally use.

For top-loading washing machines:
Place in the machine and use half the normal amount of laundry detergent.

Not recommended for front-loading washing machines as not enough water passes through the Magnet Ball. In addition, use in a front-loading washing machine may cause damage to the machine, due to the vertical spin of these types of machines.

Environmental Benefits of Norwex

Candi Bezte Norwex, Science & Technical Advisor:
"When we do the majority of our cleaning with Norwex Enviro Cloths, Window Cloths, Dusting Mitts, Mop Systems, Body Cloths, and water, we must consider that we are not only saving on the amount of cleaning chemicals we use at that time, but must also consider the “bigger picture”.

By taking on a pollution prevention strategy, we are not only saving on the use of chemicals, which is much better for our health, indoor air quality, and the environment; but also on the production, containment, and shipping of single use chemicals. [Read more about household cleaners and chemicals here: http://www.fastgreenclean.com/2013/05/household-cleaners-chemicals.html]

An indirect environmental benefit of reducing the amount of chemicals that we use is realized in a tremendous energy savings over time, in part due to lowered chemical production, but also due to a dramatic reduction in the production and shipment of plastic bottles, which are later recycled (which also consumes energy) or worse, land-filled.

There are many existing and up-and-coming “green” cleaning products, but overall, there can be no greener way to clean than using a highly durable and reusable product and water!

In many locations, residential pollution plays a significant role in the health of local waterbodies. Many treatment plants are simply not equipped to handle the array of cleaning chemicals, personal care products, and drugs that we throw (or rather flush) at them on a daily basis.

The good news is – because we are, at least in part, at the source of environmental problems, we have the power to really make a difference through our daily actions!"
